I am so glad you’ve found The Skinny Soul, a Fitness and Foodie blog based in Grapevine/North Dallas. Here you can find healthy recipes, weightless motivation, and reviews for restaurants and fitness events in the Dallas area.
I’m Jamie. I was born and raised in the South, and I’m pretty proud to be a Texan. I am not ashamed to say that I think Dallas is one of the best cities to live in and raise a family. And speaking of family…I live with my husband and three children in Grapevine. Well–only two children are at home now (this is me crying). The oldest has left the nest and is in college.
The Skinny Soul: A Fitness and Foodie Blog
I love good food, football, reading books, hiking, and biking, and I am attempting to become an avid runner. I am something of a movie buff, and I love traveling off the beaten path. Well–on AND off the beaten path. When I travel to Paris, you’ll find me on the side streets, sitting at a cafe sipping a cappuccino after I visit the Eiffel Tower.
I began The Skinny Soul as a personal weightloss journal, but I decided to make it public because I thought maybe reading about some of my struggles would help other people avoid those same pitfalls. The Skinny Soul soon evolved into a fitness and foodie blog. I started branching out into food and recipes because I have always always always loved cooking, and I especially love creating something new. The city of Dallas is an amazing place to live, and I want to encourage others to embrace it. Fitness is a huge part of my life, and I want to show others how fun the lifestyle can be. I also work with brands who fit into this healthy and wholesome lifestyle. I want to encourage women to embrace the body they have for its strength and beauty.
Running is a lifestyle
I am a runner. It has been difficult to call myself a runner, because until recently, I was a complete couch potato. When I started running, it was only as a means to lose weight. But I have learned to love running even when it hurts. I love running for the feeling I get AFTER the run. The peace, the rest, the pride I feel in what I have accomplished; these are the reasons I love to run. Each day is a victory. Each workout is a new record. I have walked through the fire of pushing myself harder than I ever thought possible, and I like the woman who is emerging on the other side.
You will see a lot of photos of me with my daughter, Kennedy (or “K”). She is a cross-country runner and is my unofficial “run coach.” She is the one who convinced me to move towards a healthy lifestyle, and it was with her that I trained for my first half-marathon. We completed the Dallas Rock n Roll Half Marathon in March of 2017. You can read the first installment of that experience here.
I am not a doctor or a nutritionist. I am simply a woman struggling to live a healthy, balanced lifestyle, and writing about it in a fitness and foodie blog. That means that sometimes I will eat cake. And sometimes I will eat quinoa.
Sometimes I have the opportunity to work with amazing brands or sponsorships. I will openly claim a sponsored post and will ALWAYS give my true opinion of that product–sponsored or not. Some of the links in a post may be affiliate links, which means that I will receive a small commission if you purchase a product through that link. There is no additional cost to you whether you purchase through my link or not; it just helps me out a teeny tiny bit for finding that great product and recommending it to you 🙂 This is a fitness and foodie blog, and I promise not to recommend anything to you that is counter to the balanced lifestyle I am trying to live.
Please contact me if you want to work with me. As a fitness and foodie blog, I have an opportunity to work with multiple brands or sponsors, but I also like to work with individuals that have a story to tell. We are a community, and we need one another to succeed. The bottom line is that we all are on a journey to find the best possible version of ourselves. And it is hard to try to do that alone.
So connect with me. Help me finish my 100 steps. Be a part of my story.
